Palette Knife Painting

I tried my hand at palette knife painting, and it is exactly what it sounds like- painting with only a palette knife and no brushed.  This, I have to say, was so much fun! The knife was fairly easy to handle and mixing the colors in with some modeling paste gave the painting amazing dimension.  I think that this would be a really great technique to teach beginners, it’s an easy way of getting paint onto the canvas without being too precise.  This first painting looks a bit like fireworks but it was meant to be flowers.   That is the beauty of art though, it can mean different things to different people.

I’ve been enjoying technique so much that I gave a second painting a try as well.  This one is of some more flowers.  I’m going to have to think of some other ideas so that I can explore this technique further.
